When to replace your cam belt?

There’s no set rule on when to replace your cam belt. It depends on your make, model of your vehicle but also the mileage and the age of the car. Manufacturers usually recommend replacing your timing belt after 40,000 to 100,000 miles or every 4 years.

How would I know if my cambelt needs changing?

There’s usually no sign that your cambelt is due to be replaced. You might not notice any difference in the way your car drives ahead of it failing. That’s why it’s crucial you have it replaced in manufacturer recommended time to avoid timing belt failure. This might be very expensive due to serious mechanical damage to the engine caused by the snapped cambelt.

How would I know if my timing chain needs changing?

While timing belts must be replaced on a regular basis, timing chain does not have replacing intervals set as it is meant to be lifelong. However, timing chain problems are frequent in vehicle with increasing mileage. Unless there is a specific fault, we recommend replacing your timing chain between 80,000 and 120,000 miles.
